Punta Cana here we come

Day 1 - travel day from Ottawa to Punta Cana

Just as the cold freeze your nuts off days of winter settle in our hometown of Gatineau we our out the door and heading off in search of warmer days in Punta Cana, out surrogate home for the next 12 days.

Our army of bags which consists of 5 suitcases of varying sizes and 4 backpack bags are packed to the gills with all manner of south-y type things like sunscreen, bathing suits, and sandals… and a shit ton more stuff. Our packing and travelling style is best described as home but in another country.

This will be the first time that we travel down south to an all inclusive to connect with our friends from out east and their adorable daughter. People have a hard time committing to traveling with us which is likely due to my thorny personality but I pretend that it's a conflict of schedules: ours is wide open while the others are no thank yous.

Travel days are hard on all especially once you have kids. When you're alone one might think it's a breeze but planes have always been rough on me, I often get bad headaches. Well now with two kids of my own I'm happy to report that my tough days of traveling are behind me. Now I get to enjoy extreme dark souls level difficulty with toddler meltdowns and infant nuclear explosions.

All kidding aside I did get a tough headache but the kids were mostly fantastic. Wesley slept on me for a good 2 hours before he started tossing back and forth moaning and crying until his eventual awakening. Lola watched movies on my iPad and reserved her meltdown for when we were about to land.

Once we touched down we grabbed our million things and headed to the carousel to grab our million other things. Both kids were awake and local time here was basically midnight. I remember when we booked this flight which left at 5pm we both thought nice we won't have to wake up at 2am to catch a flight and mess up the kids sleep schedule. Well low and behold leaving later has the exact same effect except you get to enjoy zero time of that day down south.

We grabbed out bags, our kids and then the bus and off we went to our resort. What waited for us was what seems like a nice place with shitty nighttime service. We got exactly 2 key for our room cause they were out, no crib for Wesley cause those people don't work nights and I got zero cokes or water bottles in our room.

Lola was a complete mess at this point and the constant interruptions to her sleep were only adding fuel to a volcano. It's now 2am as I type this out on my phone, my family is sound asleep and I'm eager to join them. Looking forward to enjoying the rest of our days here stress free.

Life is beautiful!
